March 1st 1999 11:30 am at the National Head Office of the United States Muay Thai Association’s, based in New York City, was the date for the beginning of the 2000 A.D. Official United States National Amateur and Professional Leagues Muay Thai Championships.
This series scheduled to begin in January 2000 will continue through to October the 7th 2000, where the first of the U.S. International Championship events are set to conclude. The the very best of the United States Top ‘Professional’ and ‘Amateur’ Muay Thai fighters will enter into the first National Thai Boxing teams (Team Muay Thai-USA) of the new millennium. These U.S. Team will compete against one international team from a member country of WAMTO (Amateur) and WMTF (Professional) international organizations from a waiting list of184 nations, who will become the first to compete for the coveted U.S. "Millennium Cup" (professional) and the "King’s Cup Classic" (Amateur). Executive Vice President Khun Clint Heyliger of the USMTA and Director Mr. Alex Y of Strike Promotions signed an agreement to begin the series, where all American Thai fighters are given the opportunity to represent their nation in the first of the ‘Official’ U.S. National Championships in the next century.
