CHIANG MAI  OLYMPIA

OPENS ITS DOORS TO FOREIGN STUDENTS.

 By Eamon Mccourt

Chiang Mai Olympia is Thailand's only purpose-built independent martial arts facility with over 700 square meters of space comprising of a sparring ring and full size sprung boxing ring together with bag stations, weights, aerobics and a mirrored matted section. Our facility combines a modern scientific approach to training yet does not lose sight of the centuries of traditional values in which Muay Thai is steeped Combined with this expanse of training area we have installed a cafe/lecture area to ensure our students have the necessary relaxation and educational facilities. This enables us to share both the practical application of Muay Thai in tandem with imparting the history and culture of this ancient Siamese martial art.

We are based in Chiang Mai, Thailand's second largest city, approximately 800km north of Bangkok. Situated 1000 feet above sea level in the foothills of the Himalayas, Chiang Mai is a city steeped in tradition and surrounded by areas of outstanding national beauty.

Whilst on the outskirts of one of the Orient's typically busy and vibrant cities we are comfortably placed within the rural countryside terrain that provides quite an inspirational training venue.

Whilst your training will be within our facilities our trainers have been encouraged to use the outstanding countryside outside our doors to form part of your training plans.

Chiang Mai Olympia is the home of the Fah Muang Neua professional Muay Thai camp. Fah Muang Neua translates into English as "The sky over the Northern City".

Muay Thai clubs in Thailand are similar to local boxing clubs around the world and often become a focus point and meeting/community center for the children of the local vicinity. We have encouraged our trainers to embrace this ethos and we are very proud of our established but rapidly expanding Muay Thai camp.

Chiang Mai is rapidly coming to terms with the pedigree of our two established former champion trainers and our young stable of professional fighters have already started to turn heads. We have elected to nurture and encourage home grown talent rather than employ journeymen fighters. Thus we are confident that we have laid down the foundations for our youth academy to progress to greater things. We are constantly flattered by the stream of parents bringing their children to train with us.

Whilst Muay Thai (Thai Boxing) is the main activity practiced at the center, we are also able to instruct Kick Boxing to the highest standard.

Derry McCourt is graded as a 3rd Dan Black belt trainer (International Kick/Thai Boxing Federation); and veteran of many kick boxing competitions. Khun Denchai won many world championship belts for kick boxing whilst instructing in the USA.

Anyone interested in this discipline can study with us on a 1-1 basis.

An application has been submitted to the World Kick Boxing Association Headquarters and it has been indicated that Chiang Mai All Stars Kick Boxing Club will become the national representative for kick boxing in Thailand.

Professional fighters are most welcome to use our first class facilities in a most hospitable city with the perfect climate and altitude. They will be offered every assistance in preparing for major competitions or recovering from injuries etc
