On December the 14th 1998, Briton and America received a telephone call from the daughter of Khun Bunyeun Savantadha in Bangkok, Thailand. The telephone call informing us that her father Khun Bunyeun Savantadha, had passed away, at home. His passing will be deeply missed by all Amateur Thai Boxers throughout the World. Khun Bunyeun was taking part in the SEA*GAMES South East Asian Games, better known as the Asian Olympics, which was being held in Bangkok last year.
Many of you will recognize the name of Khun Bunyeun, especially in association with such events as the 'Prince's Cup' of Thailand, and the 'King's Cup' of Thailand, which as many as 60 international countries have participated over the past several years.
The Amateur Muay Thai Association of Thailand first originated at the home of Mr. Bunyeun Suvanatadha, through a group of former outstanding Muay Thai practitioners:- Mr. Prasert Soso, Mr. Jumrean Thongitrut, Mr. Pone Kingpetch, Mr. Sod Sonruthai, Mr. Suradej Thongitrut, Mr. Boonmee Manshamung, Mr. Pravat Kingpetch, Mr. Pol Prapradang, Mr. Vit Jitsopha and many others.
The group discussed how to preserve and promote Muay Thai both Nationally and Internationally. Finally they agreed to authorize Mr. Bunyeun Suvanatadha, Mr. Prasert Soso and Mr. Pravat Kingpetch to legally register the Amateur Muay Thai Association. This was achieved in 1983. In 1986 with legal permission General Mana Ratanakoses was unanimously nominated as President.
