Alphonso states " Krabi- Krabong is more like Karate than Kung -fu in the sense of power. In my experience, many of the finesse techniques of Kung-fu just won't work against a Thai practitioner, and at the same time Karate concepts lack the mobility and sophistication of the Thai art.  I am not saying that Krabi Krabong is better than Kung-fu or Karate,  just different in some ways."
He stated that " Thai art has an excellent training method for developing mental toughness. I believe Muay Thai offers a student amount of combat punishment, with the least amount of shock.
Alphonso's attacker (left) prepares to launch a right Thai kick.Alphonso shifts inwards and delivers a cutting elbow strikeraising up he continues with a left & right elbow strike combination.
As you proceed through training, you learn to give and take full power contact but this ability grows at a controlled rate. Without being injured, your threshold of pain expands concurrently with your self confidence, self awareness and fighting skill, so in a real fight, you won't lose your centeredness. As you learn Krabi Krabong, you conquer fear. This knowledge raises consciousness to a higher level.
Alphonso Tamez demonstrates a Thai technique where he  finds himself behind his opponent....He moves silently  forward and prepares to double strike to the opponents collar bones.completing the strike where both collar bones have been broken he moves in more closely and tightens his grip...His opponent in pain and taken off balance,  he then  incorporates a neck breaking technique.....His opponent's center of gravity gone, he can easily bring his opponent to the ground to silently kill...
Kru Alphonso Tamez grew up in Mexico and worked in a factory with his uncle who had been a boxer. Tamez also worked as an aircraft systems mechanic. he studied Kali under Danny Inosanto at his academy and  also at the  Torrance School and the Marina Del Ray Academy.

Alphonso moves forward at the same time as his opponent prepares to launch an attack..(5)The opponent attempts a left punch which Alphonso side steps and blocks with his forearm.....The opponents motion  from the punch and block carries him forward and closer to Alphonso...Alphonso immediately grabs his opponent in a neck lock and delivers a knee to.....the mid section instantly follows up    with a vicious left and right knee strike combination...
He first went to study at Thailand's famous Buddhai Sawan Institute of Swordsmanship, Bangkok  in 1983. Mr. James Anthony, a well known writer and practitioner of the arts, said that Alphonso Tamez is one of the finest teachers in the USA. Ernie Franco, the close combat, the close-combat  advisor for both Cold Steel and Pacific Cutlery Knife companies, describes Tamez as " A superb trainer".
