A FORMATION OF THE AMERICAN

MUAY THAI PROMOTERS FEDERATION

By D. Redmond

Due to the expansion of the sport of Muay Thai within the USA, a   American Muay Thai Promoters Federation for the sport of Thai Boxing was formed. The format for membership is based on the credibility of promoters who are recognized by such governing bodies of Muay Thai, Athletic Commissions, and sports Authorities herein, as to their performance as bon afide promoters, and in such manner as to be credited with membership to the AMTPF.

REASON BEHIND THE FORMATION OF THE AMTPF: Due to the fact that the International Muay Thai has been going through some drastic changes on a global scale, it has become apparent that a structure such as the AMTPF  is essential in today's methods of promoting creditable and honest Muay Thai events. The influx of many promoters from other systems of martial arts have been fast to attach themselves to the promotion of Muay Thai events. Unfortunately, many of these bodies, do not accept or will not accept the rules and regulations of bon afide Muay Thai organizations who represent the activities and sport of Muay Thai on an National or International level. Due to the fact that the International Muay Thai has been going through some drastic changes on a global scale, it has become apparent that a structure such as the AMTPF  is essential in today's methods of promoting creditable and honest Muay Thai events.

This has lead to the public being misled in promotional events stated as Muay Thai with Thai rules etc, when in fact, such organizations have not been sanctioned or qualified to promote such an event.  Organizations that do not have this accreditation or belong to an order that will not or does not adhere to the rules of International Muay Thai, are asked to refrain from such promotional activities unless they agree to abide by the official rules of the recognized governing body, and will accept counseling by accredited officials of the sport. The many various Kickboxing organizations, i.e. WKA, WKBA, ISKA, KICK, IKBA, WKBC, etc. do not have the authority to promote Muay Thai, as these organizations are not Muay Thai orientated,  and have not taken certified course to official Muay Thai events. By such promotions, these organizations stated, are misleading the general public and are advertising such events under false pretense.

By the very nature of this form of false promotion, such organizations are destroying the credibility of Muay Thai,  Thai Boxing promoters and the sport. At the same time, the reputation of Muay Thai fighters and trainers is also tarnished. The formation of such organizations as the AMTPF  will help eradicate this harmful effect on the sport of Muay Thai in general, and will allow the public and supporters to have trust and faith in the promotional events stated as Muay Thai.

As Muay Thai enters the new millennium, and with the possibilities of recognition of the sport by the International Olympic Commission, it is necessary to take steps that will promote the sport with the dignity it deserves. Therefore the AMTPF is in formation. The annual for the Federation are for such purpose, as to instruct new promoters on how to promote events correctly, certification of membership, license, etc., office and official paperwork. official headquarters, annual meetings, joint ventures and major World promotional events, special international televised events etc.

A classification of promoters: Executive member: 'A Class' major promoter of World wide top quality events on an International and National scale. Promoters not exceeding $500,000 per annum.  Associate member: 'B Class' major promoter of quality events on an International and National scale. Promoters not exceeding $50,000 per annum.   Official member: 'C Class' promoter of quality events on a local or National scale. Promoters not exceeding $10,000 per annum.

The AMTPF will organize its best and most credited Muay Thai promoters to form the National Committee for the Promoters Federation in accordance with the rules and regulations of the governing Muay Thai organization. A Joint Board will be formed with members of the Governing Muay Thai organization and credited member promoters. Promoters who average in the range to qualify as 'B Class' promoters by promoting on a regional or state level event such register themselves as such in comparative to the AMTPF headings.

Promoters who average in the range to qualify as 'C Class' promoters by promoting on a local or regional level, should register themselves as such in comparative to the AMTPF headings. The set fee for each classification should be agreed upon by all and donations for membership should be paid annually. An annual  membership fee of $200 dollars is suggested from each promoter that  will automatically approve such promoter the privileges of promoting sanctioned and certified Muay Thai events sanctioned under the governing organization.

NOTE: The promoter on signing the agreement to membership, is required to abide by the rules, regulations and protocol of the AMTPF and follow the strict guidelines incorporated. The AMTPF  will honor such agreements between the International Muay Thai community and the respective countries Muay Thai organizations.

At no time will the promoter take it upon his/her self to promote a Championship or National title Muay Thai event without the consent of his countries Muay Thai organization. If a promoter concedes to such action, his membership and entitlements maybe be withdrawn, and his name or the name of his organization will be removed from the listing of the AMTPF credited U.S. Promoters register. Acceptance to the AMTPF will only be approved when a formal request is put forward by  applying for membership, and that applicant agrees to follow the rules and regulations incorporated.
